Birmingham Royal Ballet 2025 Japan Tour

We are delighted to announce that Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to Japan, led by Director Carlos Acosta for the first time, at the end of June 2025 after 7 years absence since the triumphant tour in 2018.

Birmingham Royal Ballet will bring two of the most exuberant productions in their rich repertoire: Sir Peter Wright's magnificent production of The Sleeping Beauty that enchanted the audiences in Japan on the last tour, and former Company Director Sir David Bintley's spectacular fairytale, Cinderella, to be revived in Japan for the first time in 10 years.

More details will be announced at a later date.

This fall, The Stuttgart Ballet finally returns to Japan with the full company for the first time since 2018. The tour opens on Saturday 2 November 2024 at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan.

The Stuttgart Ballet will present two narrative masterpieces that represent cornerstones of their repertoire: Onegin by John Cranko based on the novel in verse by Alexander Pushkin will be performed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the great choreographer's death. The other ballet is Lady of the Camellias by John Neumeier based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils. Neumeier choreographed it in 1987 for The Stuttgart Ballet, on the greatest ballerina and then the Company's Artistic Director Marcia Haydée. Both ballets feature exuberant sets and costumes by Jürgen Rose.

Cast Change: 17th World Ballet Festival, La Bayadère

It is with great regret that we announce that Kimin Kim has become unable to perform in the role of Solor in La Bayadère performance on Sunday 28 July due to the sudden schedule change of the Mariinsky Ballet which he dances with. However, please note that Kimin Kim will dance in Program A and Program B starting Wednesday 31 July as originally scheduled.

After discussions with the choreographer Natalia Makarova, the production's répétiteur Olga Evreinoff and Olga Smirnova who is to dance as Nikiya, we are pleased to announce that Victor Caixeta, Principle with Het Nationale Ballet, will dance in the role of Solor.

We apologize to our valued audience members who have been anticipating the appearance of Kimin Kim but appreciate everyone's kind understanding. We hope you will enjoy the performance with Olga Smirnova and Victor Caixeta in the leading roles.
