The Australian Ballet returns to Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Japan from 30 May to 1 June 2025 for the first time in 15 years. It will mark the Company's seventh Japan tour, and the first under the leadership of Artistic Director David Hallberg.

The Australian Ballet will bring one of the iconic works in the Company's repertoire, Don Quixote by Rudolf Nureyev whose association with the Company began in 1964, two years after its foundation, when he and Margot Fonteyn guest performed in the newly formed Company's Swan Lake and Giselle. In 1970, Nureyev created a new production of Don Quixote for The Australian Ballet with sets and costumes by renowned Australian designer Barry Kay. An abundance of bravura dancing with the lavish sets and costumes will be a showcase of the entire Company, not to be missed.

The Tokyo Ballet revives The Sleeping Beauty in April 2025 for the first time since its hugely successful world premiere of the new production in April 2023. It will be presented at Ballet Holiday Ueno no Mori, a large ballet festival held during the Golden Week, and will also tour to Oita, Okayama and Otsu in June 2025.

Premiered in 1890 with an impeccable collaboration between the great composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky and choreographer Marius Petipa, The Sleeping Beauty has long been loved as the pinnacle of 19th-century classicism. The Tokyo Ballet's new production directed by Yukari Saito is modern while keeping the fragrance of classicism, the enduring beauty.

The Tokyo Ballet's lavish production of The Sleeping Beauty will be a glorious treat for the ears and eyes. Don't miss out!

Ballet Holiday in Ueno 2025 "Discover Ballet, Play with Ballet"

Ballet Holiday is a vibrant celebration of ballet held at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, one of Japan's most renowned cultural landmarks. In addition to world-class performances by The Tokyo Ballet, the event features a wide array of ballet-themed experiences--watch, dance, listen, learn, explore, shop, and play--all in one place.
Since its launch in 2017, the festival has aimed to make ballet more accessible and inviting to a wider audience. With the belief that ballet should be enjoyed by everyone, it offers opportunities to experience the art form in both inspiring and playful ways, bridging the gap between the stage and everyday life.We provide English-language guidance for backstage tours and the rare opportunity to observe dancers' daily class.
