Since its foundation in 1987 when Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen was performed in its entirety for the first time in Japan, by the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the NBS Opera Festival has kept inviting the world-renowned opera companies to bring the best of opera performances to the audiences in Japan.

The changing circumstances surrounding the performing arts bring challenges and difficulties, but it is our mission to continue to invite the prestigious companies not only to enrich Japan's culture but also to promote international cultural exchange.

Travelling abroad to attend opera performances has become easier. However, we believe that opera lovers in Japan as well as those who are travelling to Japan can still enjoy the Festival because it assures them rare opportunities to see the finest productions performed by the world-class opera companies and carefully chosen artists, within such short periods of time, which cannot be easily realized even they go abroad for opera tours. Join us for an intensive, extraordinary operatic journey in Japan.
