Ballet de l'Opéra national de Paris returns to Japan for the first time in four years.

Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris, the world's oldest ballet company, returns to Japan for the first time in four years. Pursuing the highest level of artistry and supreme elegance, it has continued to be one of the leading ballet companies in the world with an incomparable heritage of 363 years and attitude towards incessant innovation. José Martinez leads the Company, with a line-up of some of the most prestigious dancers in the world, to Japan for the first time as Director of Dance.

The tour will open at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan on Thursday 8 February 2024 with Rudolf Noureev's Le Lac des cygnes (Swan Lake). Noureev, one of the most charismatic ballet stars of the 20th century, created his own version in 1984 as soon as he became the Company's Director of Dance. It will be performed in Japan for the first time in 18 years by versatile dancers in principal roles including three newly-appointed Étoiles Guillaume Diop, Hannah O'Neill and Marc Moreau.

Following the five performances of Le Lac des cygnes, Kenneth MacMillan's L'Histoire de Manon (Manon), an inarguable masterpiece of narrative ballet, will be presented with stellar dancers in four different casts over five performances at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan.

Both ballets will demonstrate the Company's quitessential artistry and dramatic qualities, and each and every performance is not to be missed.
