Wiener Staatsoper, Temple of musical art, returns to Japan for the first time in 9 years to present two of its signature works

The Wiener Staatsoper returns to Japan for the first time since 2016. The tour opens on Saturday 5 October 2025 at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan.

On their long-awaited Japan tour, the Wiener Staatsoper will present two of the most iconic productions in its brilliant repertoire. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart' Le nozze di Figaro will be conducted by Bertrand de Billy in a new production by Barrie Kosky premiered at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2023 to receive critical acclaim. Another production will be Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier in the Company's legendary production by Otto Schenk. It will be conducted by Philippe Jordan. Both operas will be performed by spectacular casts including baritone Andrè Schuen, soprano Hanna-Elisabeth Müller, soprano Ying Fang, and bass Riccardo Fassi and mezzo-soprano Patricia Nolz in Le nozze di Figaro, and in Der Rosenkavalier, soprano Camilla Nylund, bass Peter Rose, mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey, baritone Adrian Eröd and soprano Katharina Konradi.
