In recent years, The Tokyo Ballet had toured internationally every year until the outbreak of COVID-19 which has forced us to refrain from travelling freely for almost three years. Today we are delighted to announce that The Tokyo Ballet will perform in Melbourne, Australia, in July 2023, which will be the Company's 35th overseas tour and its Australian debut.

The Tokyo Ballet is honored to give 11 performances of Giselle at The Australian Ballet's Melbourne performance home, Arts Centre Melbourne, as a guest company in The Australian Ballet's 60th anniversary 2023 season. It is a great pleasure to be able to join The Australian Ballet's celebration together with the audiences in Melbourne.

The Australian Ballet's Artistic Director David Hallberg guest performed in The Tokyo Ballet's Giselle in 2013. In 2015, The Tokyo Ballet guest performed at the Youth America Grand Prix Gala "Legacy" presented by David Hallberg. The upcoming Tokyo Ballet's performances in Melbourne will further deepen the relationship and friendship.

Mr. Hallberg said "Welcoming The Tokyo Ballet continues the tradition of inviting the world's great companies to Australia. Whenever I danced with this company, I was always in awe of their attention to the finest of detail. Look for the precision of their corps de ballet, showcased so mesmerisingly in the haunting second act of Giselle."

The Tokyo Ballet embarked on its first international tour in 1967, three years after its foundation. The Company has given 775 performances on 34 overseas tours, in 155 cities across 32 countries, which is a record-holding international touring history in the Japanese performing arts. It has appeared in many of the prestigious theatres across the world including the Opéra national de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, The Bolshoi Theatre and Mariinsky Theatre. The Australian tour, marking 786 performances in 156 cities in 32 countries, will arguably enrich the Company's dancers and its history. We look forward to meeting the audiences in Melbourne.
