Important Updates: Postponement of The Ninth Symphony performances until 2021 and replacement performances in April 2020

It has become impossible for the Béjart Ballet Lausanne to travel to Japan in April 2020 due to the movement restrictions imposed by the Swiss government to contain the spreading of the Corona virus. After discussion with Gil Roman, Artistic Director of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, we have decided to postpone by one year until Spring 2021, all the performances of The Ninth Symphony which were originally scheduled to be performed by the Béjart Ballet Lausanne and The Tokyo Ballet on 25, 26, 28 and 29 April 2020. They will be postponed to between 29 April and 2 May 2021 to be performed as part of the "Ballet Holiday in Ueno no Mori", a ballet festival held during Golden Week.

We apologize to our valued audiences who have been anticipating the performances, but appreciate everyone's kind understanding for the unavoidable situation and your continued support. Please find below a message from Artistic Director Gil Roman sent to us on this occasion.

We will kindly ask ticket holders for the above postponed performances to see here for details about refunds and re-book to rescheduled performances of The Ninth Symphony in 2021. (We regret that the information is only in Japanese. If you need any assistance, please contact us at english@nbs.or.jp)

At present (as of 26 March 2020), we are to present the performances of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne on their Japan Tour in May 2020. In case any changes occur, we will announce on our Website.

To replace the postponed performances of The Ninth Symphony, we have decided to present two performances of Swan Lake by The Tokyo Ballet on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April 2020 as part of the "Ballet Holiday in Ueno no Mori 2020". Please see below for the performance details.

Last but not least, we extend our sincere sympathy to anyone impacted directly or indirectly by the new coronavirus.

Message from Artistic Director Gil Roman

Gil Roman,

directeur artistique du Béjart Ballet Lausanne
