It
is with great regret that we announce The Stuttgart Ballet Japan tour scheduled
in March 2022 has been cancelled.
We
received letters from Executive Director of the Staatstheater Stuttgart, Mr.
Marc-Oliver Hendriks, and Artistic Director of The Stuttgart Ballet, Mr. Tamas
Detrich, informing us that they had no choice but to cancel The Stuttgart
Ballet' tour to Japan. Currently, the situation in Germany is worse than at any
time since the beginning of the pandemic, and the theatre is in risk of being
shut down. Under such circumstances, traveling to Japan would not be authorized
by the German authorities. We discussed the matter thoroughly with the Company and
reached a conclusion that it would be impossible to make The Stuttgart Ballet
Japan tour 2022 happen.
The
Stuttgart Ballet had made every possible effort to realise the tour until the
last minute, and it is with heavy heart that we announce the cancellation.
Along with The Stuttgart Ballet, we do hope to reschedule the tour in the near
future. We apologise to our valued audiences who have been anticipating the
performances but appreciate everyone's kind understanding for the unavoidable
situation and your continued support.
Ticket
holders and subscribers to the 31st NBS Ballet Premium Series will
receive a letter or an email with ticket details. We would appreciate your
patience as it might take some time for you to receive it.
Thank
you very much for your continued support. We extend our best wishes for safety
and good health to you all.

Statement from Artistic Director Tamas Detrich
Due
to the current situation in Germany - the worst since the beginning of the
pandemic - the Stuttgart Ballet has been forced to cancel its upcoming tour to
Japan. The potential closure of our theater by the state government and the
consequences of this on planning in the coming months as well as concerns
raised by the theater's medical staff have caused the regulating body of the
State Theater Stuttgart to make this decision. Naturally the entire company is
devastated to not be able to perform two of our most beautiful signature works
- The Sleeping Beauty and Onegin - for our beloved Japanese
audiences. We deeply regret this cancellation. With no other country and with
no other presenter do we have such longstanding and heartfelt artistic and
cultural ties as with Japan and NBS."
