Cast Change: The Royal Ballet's La Fille mal gardée (4 July 2026)
It is with regret that we announce that Principal Dancer of The Royal Ballet Steven McRae has had to withdraw from the Company's Japan tour in July 2026 due to an injury which will not be sufficiently healed by then for him to perform as Colas in La Fille mal gardée.
For the performance for Saturday 4 July, 13:00 at Kawaguchi LILIA FUKAGAWA MIRAI HALL, he will be replaced by First Soloist Luca Acri in the role of Colas.
We apologise to our valued audiences who have been anticipating the appearance of Steven McRae, but appreciate everyone's kind understanding for the unavoidable situation. At the same time, we hope you will enjoy the outstanding performance with Luca Acri.
Statement by Kevin O'Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet
'I am sure our Japanese audiences will wish Steven well in his recovery. I am delighted that Luca Acri is able to perform in Steven's place in La Fille mal gardée, bringing his vivacious personality and dynamic presence to the role of Colas. Luca has been dancing exceptionally well this season and, as a Japanese dancer returning to perform in his home region, it feels both right and fitting that he should take on this role. He brings remarkable artistry to the stage, and I know our audience will be thrilled to see him perform. It is a core principle for us that the partnerships built on the Royal Opera House stage should be shared with our international audiences. As Luca and Anna Rose have developed a wonderful rapport dancing together in London, we believe it is essential to respect this collaboration and present their established chemistry here in Tokyo.
I am confident that this partnership will bring something truly special to the performance. We thank you for your wonderful support.'
