The Tokyo Ballet: The Kabuki (June 2025)

We are delighted to announce that The Tokyo Ballet revives, in June, The Kabuki, the first ballet that Maurice Béjart choreographed for the Company in 1986. Based on a famous Kabuki play titled Kanadehon Chushingura, it is a story about 47 samurai in the eighteenth century. According to Béjart's wishes, music was commissioned to the great Japanese composer Toshiro Mayuzumi

The ballet is not simply a fusion of ballet and traditional Japanese art, but a new art form invented through an exceptional collaboration of the two giants, Béjart and Mayuzumi. Since its world premiere, The Tokyo Ballet has presented The Kabuki not only in Japan but also abroad, at prestigious theaters in 28 cities in 15 countries including the Palais Garnier, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala and Royal Opera House, receiving huge acclaim.

Join us for a breathtaking masterpiece that can only be performed by The Tokyo Ballet.
